UNEXPECTED LOSS IN THE FAMILY
One of the hardest things in the life of a missionary is being away from family in critical times such as new births, graduations, birthdays, and sometimes the loss of a loved one.
Malaysia's grandmother unexpectedly became ill a few months after our trip to see her this past summer. The condition has worsened to the point that she will soon be transitioning to be with the Lord Jesus in Heaven.

Malaysia’s grandmother was like a second mother to Malaysia, having invested much time in helping to raise Malaysia and her siblings from childhood while their mother recovered from the loss of their father when Malaysia was 8 years old. She was an incredible woman of God who was faithful to her church community and devoted her life to helping as many people as she could through giving or training in various skill sets in order to be successful in society.

When we served in South Korea, because we did not ask for support, when Lawrence’s older half-brother died, it was one of the most hopeless feelings to not be able to be with his family at that time.
But now, we are so thankful that throughout this journey here in Japan, everyone has been so gracious and generous towards us, partnering with the call to reach a nation that is less than 2% Christian with the gospel of salvation through Jesus Christ by building healthy churches that plant healthy churches.
